"As a poet, I am a Rememberer. In the days before maps existed, the "ants" or Rememberers were Native guides that song "maps" to help the traveler. They scouted the territory and then created songs that were maps to each feature of the journey. They taught these songs to the traveler and in this way, they sang people forward to their destiny and back home. That's what my poetry does." Through the compelling power of her words and presence she has used poetry, storytelling, performance and inspirational speech to nourish social change, open celebrations and conduct rites of passage for women, minorities and multi-cultural audiences, as well as for families and youth.
