"When I met Maria Mar what struck me most forcefully about Maria was a
sense of her absolute authenticity and deep compassion and empathy,
along with her wonderful sense of humor and uncompromising commitment
to truth.
I met Maria at a time when I was wearing myself out doing work that I
found very stimulating but also very compulsive as a feminist activist
running an exciting project. The work was varied and broad enough that
I had the impression of doing many different sorts of work although in
fact none of it was creative work. Something inside me was drying up
and getting burned out, to the point that I destroyed my health.
Maria opened my eyes to the effects on my life of the various wounds I
have received and helped me to see the set of false beliefs I had
evolved in response to them. She helped me identify and cultivate the
inner allies who could support me in my inner journeying to find and
heal old wounds. She gave me tools I could use with her but that would
stay with me when she was no longer with me.

from my gift for drawing portraits from life, a career that is a
marriage between my political convictions and my creative passion. I

able to follow-through. She took her trip to the pyramids, has
read her writings in public and is half-way through her book,

the last time I checked. She also created her website, is
taking book orders already, has a blog and won a scholarship
to finish her Master Degree! All while studying with Maria
Mar!

Gabrielle
was a burn-out activist who dreamt of painting, but felt
compelled to work in a non-profit as political activist to
transform the world. Her split between power and art and
between prosperity and creativity did not allow her to see the

Living Ancestors Projects,
presented in the London Museum and other prestigious and
alternative places. She travels throughout the world painting
amazing women, telling their stories, advocating for
